How To Install an eSIM on an iOS device

iOS installation guide

Before installing an eSIM on your iPhone, please verify your device’s compatibility. Visit this page for an updated list.

We also recommend connecting to a strong Wi-Fi network to ensure the eSIM installation process is successful.

Installing an eSIM with an Apple universal link

Some carriers, like Bikago Mobile, include an Apple Universal Link in the confirmation email for eSIM activation. It's important to note that for the link to function properly, the default browser on your device must be Safari.

Step 1: Open the eSIM confirmation email

Click on the iOS installation button to initiate the eSIM activation process.

If your default browser is not Safari, you may encounter a prompt asking you to select "Default Browser App, Configure in iOS setting" in order to open the Apple Universal Link. Please refer to the screenshot below for guidance on selecting the appropriate option

Step 2: Activate the eSIM

You will be directed to your device settings, where you will be prompted to allow the activation of your new eSIM. Choose Allow.

Choose Continue in the next prompt.

Step 3: Confirm the new eSIM

Once the activation process is complete, your iPhone will show that the eSIM is active and ready to use.

Installing an eSIM with a QR code

Providers often provide a QR code for eSIM installation, so you can still add an eSIM even without an Apple universal link.

Step 1: Locate eSIM settings on your iPhone

Go to Settings > Cellular/Mobile Data > Add eSIM. This will prompt a Set Up Cellular menu.

Step 2: Scan a QR code or enter your eSIM details

Scan the QR code provided by your carrier with your iPhone camera.

Alternatively, you can enter the details manually.

Step 3: Activate your eSIM profile

Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the activation process.

Troubleshooting common installation issues

Some users may experience issues during the eSIM installation process. Here are some common problems and how to troubleshoot them:

QR code won't scan

  • Check that your device's camera is clean and in good condition.

  • Make sure the QR code is in focus and well-lit.

  • If using a physical QR code, ensure it is not damaged or distorted.

No network connection after installation

  • Verify that you have entered the activation code correctly.

  • Restart your device and try again.

  • If issues persist, contact the Truely support team for further assistance.
